Tectonic Plates- Week 2

The country of South Korea is located on the Eurasian plates, tectonic plates that cover parts in Europe and Asia. But although being located on Eurasian plates it is actually on a minor plate called "Amuria plate" which is still part of Eurasian plates but covers the far east of Russia and northeast China. Since South Korea does not sit on the major plate of Eurasia it does not experience much seismic activity. Despite being close to China and Japan where two countries experience a lot of seismic activity it does not affect the Korean peninsula as its neighboring countries. Because of significant tectonic movement throughout millions of years ago, South Korea is now located on a stable platform. In 2011, Japan experienced their biggest earthquake, Tohoku, which was so strong that it was able to affect Korea and brought consequences for the country. South Korea

I have chosen South Korea as my country of choice. South Korea is a country in East Asia that borders along North Korea. The country is known for its advanced technology and creating major industries that include cars and electronics. The capital of South Korea is Seoul which is home for the majority of Koreans. Most of the country is filled with numerous of mountains and extensive coastline with many small islands. Surrounding South Korea are multiple countries that include China facing west, Japan facing southeast and Russia to northeast. Since South Korea borders North Korea they share a heavy militarized zone which was established after the North and South Korean war around the 1950's. Because of the amount of mountains in South Korea they face a lot of challenges that includes rapid rainfall which create typhoons and floods.
